Car Horns
Thursday, November 15, 2018 1:43:00 AM Asia/Calcutta
Horns are typically installed so a vehicle can alert other vehicles and pedestrians of its arrival or passing. Horns are not essential to driving. In most countries, they are only used during emergencies. Car horns are located on the steering wheel for ease of use. Most countries have a limit on the decibel levels of a car horn and it is set around 80 to 94 dB. In India, the decibel level should be at 94 dB at seven meters in front of the car.
There are different sounds that different types of horns emit. Each car or manufacturer will have its own OEM horn. The problem with stock horns is that not only are they quiet they also often sound bad. Most of the OEM horns lack full-range sound. Adding a low tone horn to the stock will make it sound like how it should have from the factory.
The housing is identical for both high and low horns. The only other difference is the diaphragm inside and the frequency that it vibrates at. The diaphragm travel distance on some horns can be adjusted via an external screw that will change the frequency of the 'note'. The low tone gives a bellow sound, while the high tone gives an audible sharp horn sound. They need each other to produce the correct horn sound amplitude. If any of them is missing, your horn will become almost inaudible. Different dual tone horns work in different ways. There might be two horns in one unit or they are designed such that they produce two distinctive tones.

Nitrogen versus Air—what is right for your tyre?
Thursday, November 15, 2018 1:37:56 AM Asia/Calcutta
Is nitrogen good for your tyre? Let us understand the basics. According to physics, all gases
expand and contract as they are exposed to hot and cold temperatures. The same applies to
tyre inflation pressure. It may rise and fall with respect to the ambient temperature, which is
about one psi (pound per square inch) for every 10°F. Always check your tyre pressure before
starting a long drive. It is advised to check tyre pressure before the temperature rises as the
heat generated from driving affects the pressure reading.
It is essential that we take good care of tyres to increase its longevity. The key to proper
maintenance is to maintain proper inflation and follow the recommended inflation pressure.
The user manual in every vehicle has recommended pressure value that needs to be
maintained for excellent service and better control of your vehicle. Most tyre manufactures
advice people to check tyre inflation pressure at regular intervals. Often, it is once a month
depending on usage, condition and driving habits.
Alloy wheels! What are alloy wheels?
Thursday, November 15, 2018 1:33:53 AM Asia/Calcutta
In scientific terms, alloy is a mixture of two or more metals. Similarly, alloy wheels are generally a mixture of metals like aluminium, magnesium and sometimes even nickel. Even though steel itself is an alloy of iron and carbon, in the automotive industry, alloy wheel are wheel rims known to be made of nonferrous metal (nonferrous metals are metals that do not contain iron and are rust-free).
The earliest alloy wheels were made of magnesium, which often suffered deformities due to the
ductility of the metal. In recent years, aluminium has replaced magnesium as low cost and high performance alloy wheels.
