 Keep your bike clean.
The effort taken to keep your bike clean goes a long way in preventing problems from occurring. Simply by keeping the vehicle clean prevents dust accumulation, rusting and corrosion. The minerals in the water and mud lead to corrosion if you let mud accumulate on your bike. On the other hand, never wash off your vehicle and let it dry. Rinse off your bike and wipe it down. Exposing it to water for a long time can increase chances of rusting. So, as long as you wipe the water off, you do not have to worry about rust.

 Properly inflate your tyres
Tyre inflation is a serious factor that determines vehicle efficiency and life of the tyre. It isn’t as simple as it sounds. It is crucial that the tyres are not over or under inflated. Almost all tyres come with a prescribed or recommended pressure unit for that particular tyre brand and make. The recommended PSI unit is usually stamped on the sidewall of the tyre or can be found in the user manual.

It is ideal to understand the road conditions that affect the tyre and tyre pressure. Especially in areas where the roads are rough and contain excessive chip seal and gravel. For rides to be smoother and for the tyre to absorb the shock and to roll over them, understand the recommended pressure from the mechanic and also understand the impact on tyres over bumpy roads. A vehicle with tyres that are optimally inflation has better control and handling while on bumpy and bouncy roads. It is proven that optimum inflation leads to quicker and efficient vehicle handling.

Don’ts This list is especially for non-bikers. Do not rush into finding your own solution without gaining knowledge of the problem and understanding the vehicle.

 Don’t rush into a repair work without proper tools or enough knowledge. Working on your own bike is a healthy practice that helps you understand the vehicle and improvises vehicle handling. But this task should be taken up only as far as the knowledge allows because sometimes a simple task can have hidden challenges.Taking this in your hands will however be a necessary learning experience but it shouldn’t be at the expense of bigger problem. Machines could be complicated. Sometimes removing a small, tiny screw could require a special tool. A good example would be tightening bolts on seat posts. It may not seem to be the root cause of any problems but sometimes a little extra pressure on a
screw or any part may cause permanent damage as majority of the parts are made of carbon fibre, which may undergo severe damage with a few extra twists.

 Do not oil up the entire bike.
Lubricating a bike is important and necessary. But oil does not have to be applied to every single
bolt, spoke and nut.
The only important part that needs to be regularly lubricated is the chain. Also, it is vital that you
wipe off the excess oil applied to the chains. There are few parts adjacent to the chain that may
need oil application but other than that your bike is good.
Do not go overboard and apply oil to the gears, pedals and brakes, they don’t need lubrication
and work fine without it. In some cases, if you have mistakenly applied oil to the rotors of the
disc brakes, you will start hearing weird ghoul sounds while braking. The most important reason
is that brake parts tend to get contaminated because of oil application even though they seem to work through the first few applications. Eventually, it will lead to replacement of the brake
system.

 Leave your bike outside but can’t expect it to be fine. Your responsibility does not end in keeping your bike clean and in working condition. Taking care of it through various climatic changes is also important. Leaving your bike outside all through
summer, during the rains and in winter can slowly cause damage to your vehicle. Even if you
don’t own a garage to park your bike, make sure you throw a cover over it. It may be a small
effort but makes a visible difference in the long run.
