Use the following checklist before starting your journey to ensure safety and to avoid any
potential mishaps:
Do you enough fuel for the journey?
Is tyre inflation enough? Also, look for punctures and damages in tyres.
Check your throttle and clutch to ensure that they are working properly
Check the steering to ensure if it’s smooth and manoeuvrable
Check if all the essential lights and horns working (headlight, taillight, turn signals).
Check engine oil level.
Check the alignment of the chain and lubrication.
Check both the brakes—rear and front brakes.
Adjust the mirror to suit you (Do not adjust while the vehicle is on its stand). Basic
rule is that the tip of your shoulder should be seen in the lower edge of the mirror
for perfect visibility range and angle.
WEEKLY CHECKS
Use the following checklist for weekly examination of your bike to ensure that it remains in
good working condition:
Check if the depth of tyre tread is adequate and even. The wheels should be
balanced and the alignment should be checked to see if the wear is uneven.
Check for bulges, cracks, cuts and scrapes on your tyres, which may lead to a flat tyre
or cause a blowout
Check air inflation. Most of the blowouts are a result of inadequate air pressure.
Check for any loose spokes or cracks in the rim or in the wheel
Inspect all the controls and look out for any kinks or broken strands in any of the
cables.
Check if your chains are oiled and check for worn out teeth that might need
replacement.
Have you looked for any loose or missing nuts, bolts and pins? Ensure you tighten or
replace these as soon as you notice them. If you keep your bike clean, it is easier to
spot the missing parts.
Are the brakes of the vehicle working properly? Check if there is a scraping sound
when the brakes are applied or when the wheels don’t lock when applied. Have the
brakes checked by a professional.
Check all fluid levels. Refill when necessary (coolant, clutch fluid, brake fluid and
engine oil.)
